Who was Wilhelm Suksdorf?

"Suksdorfia" the blog, and the Washington Native Plant Society chapter, are named for famed botanist Wilhelm Suksdorf. He holds a special place in Columbia Gorge history for being a co-founder of the town of Bingen, and for making a serious study of Washington plants.

The "Suksdorfia group" is a currently (winter 2011) informal collection of White Salmon-area residents interested in native plants, especially wildflowers. For organized events, check out the links above to the native plant societies of Washington and Oregon. The Oregon organization has an an active "Mid-Columbia" chapter, which meets in The Dalles.
